Frequently asked questions

Q. What is the height of the shower door?
A.
The majority of Merlyn doors and enclosures are 1850mm high from top of the tray. Merlyn Series 7 range has a towel rail and require a ceiling height of 1950mm high.  For product specific details please visit the technical section of this web site. However it is possible to order Special height and/or Special width units.

Q. Which trays do we recommend for our enclosures?
A.
Choice of shower tray is a personal one, Merlyn shower enclosures suit most standard trays, except where a dedicated tray is sold with the product, visit your bathroom retailer for further advice. If a Curved enclosure is to be fitted a tray with a 550mm radius must be used, except where specifically identified in our technical section.

Q. How do I reverse my shower doors?
A.
Where applicable simply turn the door upside-down. Certain models in the Merlyn range are not reversible (see technical Guide) and as such the purchaser must identify what handling of the enclosure is desired, at time of purchase.

Q. How do I know what hand I should specify when purchasing my Merlyn enclosure ?
A.
To select the correct handing, stand out side the enclosure note the side on which the hinges will be situated to allow the desired opening motion. The side where the hinges are located Identifies the handing on the door. If the hinges are on the right it is a right handed door.

Q. How is the door width adjustable?
A.
The wall channels slide in or out of the door frame. In most cases there is an adjustment of 25mm on each side. For product specific information please refer to the technical section.

Q. Can I increase or decrease my shower enclosure to fit the opening in my bathroom.
A.
If you find that the space available is slightly wider than the unit purchased. It is some times possible to fit an extension profile to the unit to help fill the space. In situations where the space is smaller than the available off the shelf unit Merlyn offer a bespoke service (see catalogue for details)

Q. What products do we recommend for cleaning of enclosures?
A
. Merlyn do not recommend any cleaners. To clean units use warm soapy water and apply using a soft sponge, afterwards dry off with a soft clean cloth.

Q. Should walls be tiled before fitting a shower tray?
A.
No, if walls are tiled after installing a shower tray a much better leak free seal can be made between the shower tray and the wall.

Q. When should I take my shower space wall measurements?
A.
Merlyn design all their enclosures to fit a tiled space. The finished tile measurement should be quoted when buying a Merlyn enclosure to ensure best fit of the enclosure.

Q. Are Merlyn enclosures suitable for wet room situations?
A. Yes, all Merlyn enclosures are suitable for wet room situations. Ensure that the fall on the floor and the waste is compatible with the water flow and are sufficient to drain the water from the enclosure.
